There is generally one generation per year in the United States. Eggs overwinter embedded in slits cut into bark or young woody tissue, usually on twigs and stems. Eggs hatch in spring, with timing varying by climate; in warmer southern areas, nymphs may appear from early spring, while farther north activity is later.
